I'm a beginner with Linux then, I offer you this little contribution (I hope) about PCI RAID IDE controler.
You can delete it but, please tell me if that was usefull.
Thank you very much.

I need a PCI card to allow me to use 2 IDE HDD in RAID1 (at start) on a DELL PowerEdge 2200 server which have only onboard SCSI adapter.

I tried 3 type of these cards :

ITE8212 based chip

Supported RAID modes : 0, 1, 0+1, 5
Compatibility : <color="FF000">NO</color>
Manufacturer : WINIC classed "No Name" (http://www.WinIC.com eagle head on the blue box)
Product reference : W-8212 PCI Ultra ATA 133 IDE Card

A865-A based chip

Supported RAID modes : 0, 1, 0+1
Compatibility : <color="00FF00">YES</color>
Manufacturer : ACARD classed "No Name" (http://www.ACard.net)
Product reference : AEC-6880 (it's same as AEC-6280(no RAID) card. Difference is the firmware and, may be, the flash memory chip (for the size of the firmware)

SIL0680 based chip

Supported RAID modes : 0, 1, 0+1
Compatibility : <color="00FF00">YES</color>
Manufacturer : CONNECTLAND classed "No Name" (http://www.ConnectLand.net)
Product reference : Unknown

I tried to install SME 6.0.1 without succes due to a Installer problem about 'ks.cfg' file not found. So, I kept my SME 5.6 wich have no problem to be installed with compatible cards.

These cards work properly for the installation and use. Is it sufficient to say "They are REALLY compatible" ? So, if it's not sufficient, what test(s) I must perform to be really sure ?

Thank you in advance.

P.S.
About ITE8212 based PCI card, on the drivers CD, I found a Red Hat 7.3 folder which contains files need compilation. Also, I read "designed for 2.4.23 Kernel".

Thanks, Quadrax, this is great! This page was only intended for "Hey, I got "x" to work" so your input is perfect. If it boots a default install and appears to work OK, that's enough to say it's compatible - we can't reasonably expect folks to do weeks of recursive testing to "prove" it. - RonM

About my hardware configuration (SIL0680 based RAID IDE controler card on a DELL PowerEdge 2200 server), I have a little problem when I press the reset button after a shutdown performed by Linux (SME distribution, here) : the computer freezes just after RAID controler BIOS prompted his messages. I have no problem when I perform a reboot operation from SME. So I think, the problem is the Reset function of my server because, I can disable it from the BIOS server. - Quadrax
